The “white paper” by Ronald B. Turk, deputy director and chief operating officer of the BATF, calls for removing restrictions regarding the sale of silencers, allowing dealers to have guns used in crimes traced to their stores before the feds require more information, and beginning a study on removing the ban on some imported semi automatic firearms. The ban on importing the semi automatic firearms seems a bit irrelevant as many of the same firearms are already available to legal gun owners. Those banned rifles can and would serve a sporting purpose and should not be so regulated, in my opinion. The eleven page “white paper”, secured by The Washington Post, is titled “Options to Reduce or Modify Firearms Regulations.” The proposal opens with the wording of the Second Amendment and is dated January. 20.
While the paper was penned by a senior official, the BATF is saying the paper does not represent the views of the entire BATF, the BATF has said, the repeal of some of the restrictions is the opinion of some agents and was designed to bring about informed discussion. The white paper is being strongly opposed by anti gun groups such as the Center for American Progress.
This coming on the heels of the introduction of The Hearing Protection Act being submitted, removing silencers from the NFA list, is a good sign we may be seeing some serious and unConstitutional restrictions being relaxed or removed for the law abiding gun owner. Considering Donald Trump and Donald Trump Jr are avid sportsmen and supporters of the Second Amendment things may be finally turning around for us law abiding gun owners.
