Lone Wolf custom match pistol, almost cheating.

LW-3

It is no secret I like the Lone Wolf aftermarket Glock parts, especially their barrels. They do add a degree of accuracy but also allow to shoot lead bullets through your Glock, safely.  You can see where I reviewed the Lone Wolf 9mm threaded barrel here and their replacement barrel for the Glock 20 here.

Lone Wolf-14

It was a few months ago Lone Wolf sent me one of their custom pistols built off their Timber Wolf receiver. For those not familiar with the Timber Wolf receiver, it is polymer built to Glock third generation specs with a Picatinny Rail and deep texturing on the grip area, front, and back straps.

Lone Wolf-12

It has interchangeable backstraps and built in extended beaver tail. All that is well and fine but the big deal is, well it is about half way between a Glock and 1911 grip angle as far as feel, so for those who do not care for the Glock grip angle and have a Gen 3 slide, you have a solid option. You can get that receiver bare or built by Lone Wolf.

Here you can see the forward cocking serrations, though they can tough on leather holsters many folks prefer them on match/defensive pistols. You can also see the Picatinny Rail below the front of the slide.

Lone Wolf-5

A close look at the magazine well, the thing about this mag well is standard magazines would still seat so you did not have to use extended base pads. Note the aggressive texturing on the grip area and the front strap, with the finger grooves. These features aided in keeping a firm purchase on the pistol, especially with sweaty or dirty hands. The magazine well can be removed by a single pin if you choose to carry the gun without the magazine well.

Lone Wolf-11

The Ultimate Adjustable trigger, broke at 5 1/2 pounds with some take up, that was consistent.  It did have some over travel but is still much better than a factory Glock trigger. The trigger is very adjustable but I kept it as set from the factory as I liked the way it was set up.Lone Wolf was smart enough to include an extended slide stop and extended magazine catch, all real nice features.

Trijicon HD Night Sight Set, they picked up well night and day.

Lone Wolf-15

The Lone Wolf Custom Pistol field/detail strips just as any other Glock with a double stack magazine.

The test pistol also came with a Lone Wolf slide all built and ready to go. I had two barrels, the standard length and threaded.

Initial Range Trip

LW-2

I took the test sample to the rangehot proving grounds and ran a several factory Glock magazines as well as the new Magpul PMag 17 GL as reviewed here. The Lone Wolf custom pistol proved to be reliable with both magazines through several defensive rounds as well as standard ball. It was the same with the standard and threaded barrels. After about 100 rounds I was satisfied the pistol was reliable so we went to accuracy and endurance testing.

Conclusions

The Timberwolf reciever is a solid option for someone who favors the Glock platform but is left lacking with the ergonomics. There are a lot of options in the aftermarket to upgrade your Glock pistol, many of them good and some, well…..anyway. The one bright side of ordering such a receiver from Lone Wolf is it is assembled by the parts you choose and comes ready to go. Any potential issues will be resolved long before anything leaves the factory. Same story as the slide, all put together and fitted. Many of use like to build our own guns and you have that same option with Lone Wolf, ordering exactly what you want and fitting it yourself. This custom pistol is many of the nicest parts offered by Lone Wolf and would serve well as a carry/defensive piece and as a match pistol. I ran about 400 various rounds through the pistol without an issue.

LW

With the threaded barrel this pistol also served well as a silencer host.

I spent much of my youth involved with firearms and felt the call early on to the United States Marine Corps, following in my father's and his brother's footsteps. Just after high school I enlisted and felt most at home on the rifle range, where I qualified expert with several firearms and spent some time as a rifle coach to my fellow Marines. After being honorably discharged I continued teaching firearm safety, rifle and pistol marksmanship, and began teaching metallic cartridge reloading. In the late 1990s I became a life member to the National Rifle Association and worked with the Friends of the NRA. Around that time my father and I became involved with IDPA and competed together up until he passed away. I began reviewing firearms for publications in the mid 2000s and have been fortunate to make many friends in the industry. Continuing to improve my firearms skills and knowledge is a never ending journey in which we should all be committed. I am also credited as weapons master on a few independent films.
