It was a couple of months ago I received the Riton  RT-S MOD 3 Gen 2 1-4×24/IR  and mounted it onto the obnoxious Barnes Precision Machine 7.5″ pistol to begin testing.

After getting it zeroed and shooting some 100 yard groups with the pistol/scope combo here is what we learned. At one power you essentially have a red dot sight but with a reticle instead of the dot but with the flexibility to add magnification if needed.

To adjust the windage and elevation the turret must be unlocked by pulling up on it, making the adjustment and relocking it by simply pushing the turret back down. This keeps from inadvertently knocking the zero off. Once you have the scope zeroed like you want you can set the turrets to zero by removing an Allen screw, pulling the turret off the adjuster, aligning the zero of the adjustment knob to an arrow on the scope body. This is so when you make windage and elevation adjustments to your initial zero you will be able to reset the scope back to the first zero if need be. The adjustment is 1/2 MOA per click.

This scope has a variable intensity illuminated reticle and you will find that battery under the adjustment turret.  Being a 1-4 power this optic is a second focal plane scope, so the reticle stays the same size as you adjust the magnification.

The scope ships with lens caps so you have no excuse not to protect the glass when not in use.

We ran a total of about 150 rounds through the little BPM AR pistol without any problems. While the recoil of the 5.56×45 is not bad the pistol is pretty violent to run, so I expect if there were any issues with the optic they would have turned up. If you were to have a problem Riton has an excellent lifetime warranty program. MSRP is $339.99

By Hunter Elliott

I spent much of my youth involved with firearms and felt the call early on to the United States Marine Corps, following in my father's and his brother's footsteps. Just after high school I enlisted and felt most at home on the rifle range, where I qualified expert with several firearms and spent some time as a rifle coach to my fellow Marines. After being honorably discharged I continued teaching firearm safety, rifle and pistol marksmanship, and began teaching metallic cartridge reloading. In the late 1990s I became a life member to the National Rifle Association and worked with the Friends of the NRA. Around that time my father and I became involved with IDPA and competed together up until he passed away. I began reviewing firearms for publications in the mid 2000s and have been fortunate to make many friends in the industry. Continuing to improve my firearms skills and knowledge is a never ending journey in which we should all be committed. I am also credited as weapons master on a few independent films.
