When I say Aero Precision I can almost bet the first thing you think of is not range bags. Neither did I, but when I got their promotional email awhile back showing off their new line of backpacks and range bags I was intrigued. I knew from my previous dealings with them that I could expect a quality product, since I needed a new range bag anyways, I requested a couple bags sent to me for review.
In this article we’ll focus on the Deluxe Rifle Bag, which can be found here. The bag is available in Black, Coyote Brown, or Wolf Grey. At 48″x12.5″x3.5″ it’s not exactly a small bag. It is sized to accommodate fairly large guns, as you can see in the photo below, with a 16″ AR-15 in it there is quite a bit of room on each side.
Securing the firearm is done via included velcro straps. For my purposes I used two of the included straps to wrap around the rail and stock on the AR. Strapping it dead center allows ample padding around all four sides.
It also keeps the rifle from sloshing around in the case when carried with the backpack straps.
I found the straps comfortable while carrying the bag and other gear to and from the car at the range. Here’s my wife modeling how it looks on someone 5′ 6″.
In the above photo you can also see one of the bags main selling points, the included shooting mat.
I have been using a roll up shooting mat for several years, and it has served me well. The Aero’s mat is superior though in a few ways. For one it folds and stores neatly in the outer pouch.
When shooting off a bag the shooting mat provides ample protection from the ground. It kept me dry and warm while shooting on snow.
A very handy feature comes when shooting off a bipod. The mat’s included pockets along the edges allow you to slip the bipod feet into them for bipod loading. Because your body weight is on the mat, the bipod is free to push against the mat without movement.
The bag retails for $249.99 over on Aero Precision’s website. If you are in the market for a new bag with mat I don’t see why this wouldn’t fill that role.

Looks like a well thought out design. Are there pouches for magazines?
Hi Bob, there are no specific magazine pouches, but the front pockets are large enough to store mags in them. I do that along with a box of ammo and it’s been ok. You could also use some of the webbing inside to attach a separate mag pouch if needed.
Is it made in the USA, or is it imported?
Hi Francis, I’m not sure, the website doesn’t say either way. I can look at the bag itself this weekend and see if there’s a tag on it.
