After some 1000 rounds of various 45-70 Government, .44 Magnum, and .44 Special through the Liberty Suppressors Goliath, I figured it deserved a review of its own. I have been working with Liberty Suppressors for many years now and have come to expect a high level of quality within their silencers. The Goliath is no exception.

It is designed for .458 SOCOM and works excellent with the .444 Marlin, .450 Bushmaster, and .45-70 Government. It is rated up to .338 Lapua Magnum, .338 Norma Magnum, and .338 Weatherby Magnum. That tells you right off that this can is built to stand the pressures of magnum cartridges.

The Goliath is direct thread, but the thread adaptors can be swapped out, so whatever thread pitch you need can be accommodated.

As expected, the Goliath did not affect the host’s accuracy or reliability. Large volume excels at suppressing the big bore cartridges but would also do well with lesser cartridges if you are looking for one size that does many. Keep in mind the diameter and your sight height. If your front sight is not quite tall enough to stick above the can, you can easily learn to “shoot through the can,” where you visualize the target behind the silencer while still referencing your sight. It is far easier than it sounds. After many rounds through the Goliath over many hosts, I am satisfied this can stands up to its name; however, with its weight at only twenty ounces, it does not add any significant weight to the end of your rifle. While it is not user-serviceable, it can be sent to Liberty Suppressors for free disassembly and cleaning if it’s been shot enough to meet their criteria. The criteria is when the silencer reaches 150% of its original weight due to the carbon filling it in.

If you are looking for a big-bore can with good suppression levels that will not weigh your rifle down, I highly recommend the Liberty Suppressors Goliath.

I spent much of my youth involved with firearms and felt the call early on to the United States Marine Corps, following in my father's and his brother's footsteps. Just after high school I enlisted and felt most at home on the rifle range, where I qualified expert with several firearms and spent some time as a rifle coach to my fellow Marines. After being honorably discharged I continued teaching firearm safety, rifle and pistol marksmanship, and began teaching metallic cartridge reloading. In the late 1990s I became a life member to the National Rifle Association and worked with the Friends of the NRA. Around that time my father and I became involved with IDPA and competed together up until he passed away. I began reviewing firearms for publications in the mid 2000s and have been fortunate to make many friends in the industry. Continuing to improve my firearms skills and knowledge is a never ending journey in which we should all be committed. I am also credited as weapons master on a few independent films.
