It was about a year ago I reviewed the Double D Armory SST, you can read that review by following this link. That particular rifle was machined from billet aluminum. Double D Armory has since released a forged rifle at a lesser MSRP of $1799, the SSTF.
My test sample arrived after serving duty as a rental rifle at a gun store in Colorado. Showing up filthy, I reached out to the gun store where my sample originated to get a round count. After consulting some paperwork their best guess was between 4-5000 rounds over a six to eight month period with no issues logged. I am telling you what was told to me in good faith so you can take that for what it is worth. That was fine with me, though I had no intention of cleaning it so I got right to work checking it out.
Initial Impressions
M-Lok free floating handguard with full length Picitanny Rail. The forward grip is an option from Double D and I recommend it. My only complaint was at this price point I would have liked to see a nicer flash hider, but I also understand many people aren’t as particular about their muzzle devices as they are their optics. Someone getting into such a high end boutique rifle would likely swap out their muzzle device anyhow.
MagPul MOE SL collapsible stock with 3.3″ of adjustment
Nickle Boron bolt carrier group, Magpul pistol grip. The mil spec trigger broke clean at six pounds with some take up and a bit of overtravel.
MagPul back up folding sights. You can see one of the examples of the options Double D Armory offers as the anodized multi color pattern that really sets this rifle apart.
We ran this rifle with MagPul PMags as well as standard GI magazines as well as with the Liberty Suppressors Triumph and Cosmic silencers. You can see the review of the Cosmic by following this link Through a final count of over 400 various rounds there were no failures.
3 shot groups from a rest at 100 yards using the Riton Mod 3 4.5-18 x 40 rifle scope. Once I got the rifle sighted in I shot several groups and these represent the best I was able to get on paper.
Average 3 shot group from 55gr bullets

Conclusions
Though the new SSTF forged rifle is a few hundred dollars less in MSRP over the SST, there are some upgrades. Double D Armory is now using their own sixteen inch barrels with a one in seven twist. Though the SST was a bit more accurate with specific ammunition, the SSTF was more consistent in accuracy across the variety of ammunition used in the review. Today there are surly a plethora of manufactures churning out their version of the Eugene Stoner rifle so it takes a bit of doing to set yourself apart from the crowd. Building a sub MOA rifle is not as uncommon as it used to be. Double D Armory offers several options of this unique color pattern with some very nice options and still keeping it easily a sub MOA reliable rifle certainly puts them in a unique category. I am satisfied this rifle is what the manufacture claims it to be and would serve you well for rifle matches as well as informal range use and training. If you are in the market for a nice rifle Double D Armory is worth looking over. If you are indeed interested and cannot find one locally you can contact Double D Armory directly, letting them know you saw the review here on rangehot.com for special pricing so you can have the rifle shipped to your dealer for transfer.

Great video and article, a lot of great information. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this review.
Keep up good work.
The range that I run has an Actium Blue SSTF in the rental fleet as well. Our s is creeping up on 7k, with no observed malfunctions. Its been run almost entirely suppressed for the past year, it gets disgustingly dirty. It just keeps on going. I own my own SSTF, as do the majority of my staff. It is a phenomenal gun, and priced to appeal to the DDM4 buyer, except with more features. Strongly recommended.
why can’t i pull up double-d armory online?
That is a good question. I have tried to load the site from a few different places and it is down.
I will call Jay tomorrow and find out.
Do you know what’s going on with the Double D Armory website? Their Instagram account appears to be out of date as well. Are they still active?

I have tried to find the answer to your question and I have not came up with anything. I am sorry, I will call the owner and see what I can learn.
