First Impressions

Right and left sides, note the ambidextrous decocker, that can be swapped out for an included safety. The P-07 is reliable with supersonic and subsonic ammunition with and without a silencer fixed to the factory threaded barrel.

In that configuration the P-07 can be carried in condition one.

Picatinny Rail molded into the polymer receiver. The slide stop has enough ledge incorporated into it to load the pistol from slide stop by thumbing it down. The trigger pull in double action is a heavy fourteen pound pull with plenty of overtravel and some takeup. The single action trigger has much less take up and overtravel, breaking at four and a half pounds.

The silencer sights are factory three dot Tritium night sights. The added height of the sights will allow you to run a silencer on the P-07 and keep a correct sight picture. The circumference of the silencer impedes correct sight picture with standard height sights. The added bonus is more area on the sights allows for a bit quicker acquisition. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with this style sight, as the point of aim and point of impact is a little different from standard sights.  When choosing a holster keep in mind the tall sights and factory threaded barrel.

As will all CZ pistols, the slide is lower in the receiver allowing the bore axis to be closer in line with your shooting arm. This helps with mitigating recoil. The small draw back is lessened area on the slide for a solid purchase for racking the slide. CZ has addressed this by deep and aggressive cocking serrations at the front and rear, while the front cocking serrations are cut into the slide at a forty five degree angle, adding back a bit of real estate to the serrations.

There are three different backstraps included to allow the end user some customization of the grip. Since the grip texturing is incorporated into the receiver, you do not have the option of changing the stocks.

The two included magazines are standard P-07 but the capacity has been increased from fifteen to seventeen by factory installed plus-two magazine extensions. This modification did not affect reliability.

Field stripping the P-07 is pretty simple, lining up a line on the rear of the slide to a line on the receiver and pushing out the slide stop allows you to pull the slide forward off the receiver. Once separated you can then remove the recoil spring and barrel.

Conclusions

I see this pistol serving well as a carry gun that could be used for your local pistol matches as well as range therapy, but this version of the P-07 would be ideal for home defense. My reasoning is with factory night sights, seventeen plus one capacity, and Picatinny Rail you would have the advantage in the dark, and being able to thread on a silencer would keep the report to a minimum. Discharging a handgun without hearing protection is never a good idea but doing so inside would be dangerous to your hearing. Addressing a threat in your home is paramount to your safety so it would be understood forgoing hearing protection but with a silencer you mitigate most of the report and all of the muzzle flash.   Through some 400 rounds there were no malfunctions or issues. Since Allison has more rounds downrange on this pistol, I am going to turn the conclusions over to her:

Having already experienced the P-09, the P-01, and the 512 Tactical from CZ, I was excited to find that Hunter would be reviewing the P-07 next. I have acquired a taste for CZ products and the P-07 caught my attention at the 2016 NRA Show. We expressed interest in reviewing the gun and in September CZ made it happen. During our time with the gun I have run more than 200 rounds through it without any sign of trouble.

This double stack 9mm is comfortable in my small hands and I am confident in my grip. I’m not terribly strong in my hands or arms, but racking the slide and controlling recoil are not difficult for me with this pistol. It is silencer ready with a threaded barrel and silencer sights. We attached two different silencers by Liberty Suppressors, the Centurion and the Cosmic, during our testing and determined that reliability was not diminished when shooting through a can. The fun factor, however, increased exponentially as the number of rounds in the magazine decreased. You can click the links to see the other reviews we have published on the CZ firearms and silencers listed.

The lower picatinny rail makes installing accessories, such as a light, a simple task. I appreciate that the gun comes with a de-cocker that is interchangeable with a thumb safety that is also included. I have thoroughly enjoyed shooting this pistol and am satisfied with its performance and reliability. I have been looking for a 9mm that would give me a good reason to purchase my own silencer and I think I’ve found it. I’m laying claim on this one, Hunter. -Allison

I spent much of my youth involved with firearms and felt the call early on to the United States Marine Corps, following in my father's and his brother's footsteps. Just after high school I enlisted and felt most at home on the rifle range, where I qualified expert with several firearms and spent some time as a rifle coach to my fellow Marines. After being honorably discharged I continued teaching firearm safety, rifle and pistol marksmanship, and began teaching metallic cartridge reloading. In the late 1990s I became a life member to the National Rifle Association and worked with the Friends of the NRA. Around that time my father and I became involved with IDPA and competed together up until he passed away. I began reviewing firearms for publications in the mid 2000s and have been fortunate to make many friends in the industry. Continuing to improve my firearms skills and knowledge is a never ending journey in which we should all be committed. I am also credited as weapons master on a few independent films.

  1. This gun is almost a dead ringer for my Sphinx. I believe I will have to get this CZ model and a suppressor later . I got a really great deal on my Sphinx or I would not have bought it.
I have 2 CZ rifles (a 243 and a short barrel .22 with a threaded barrel, both are really fine guns with accuracy that is just awesome with superb triggers.Pistol is priced just below what I paid for my unfired but “used” Sphinx 17 shot pistol.
    hELLO CZ!

  2. Thank you Hunter for allowing me to be a part of this review, enjoyed shooting this one and it was always on the mark. Great review and video.

  3. I accidentally stumbled across a P09 at my local gun store and tried it out. I liked it so much, I used my Beretta 96A1 to pay for it. I like it so much, I’m considering using my PX4 Storm to pay for the P07. I’m a recent CZ convert. I have never shot so well with a new gun right out of the box and I never thought I’d say this about a $500 handgun.
