I have been getting a lot of great feedback and I wanted to address many of the questions I get, so I took a break while working on a few reviews to get a video put together to, hopefully, shed some light on myself, and rangehot.com.

Please keep in mind, manufactures do not pay me to do these reviews so I come to you with my opinions as honest as I can. I will be the first to admit that I make mistakes and am not perfect. I do feel with my years as a US Marine, firearm instructor, firearms student, amature competitor, writer, and enthusiast I represent the shooting community well,  and I consider myself an above average shooter. I am not a professional shooter and do not claim to know everything about firearms but I do put forth a great deal of effort to stay well informed and bring you honest unbiased reviews. If you see a problem, let me know. I do make mistakes despite my best efforts and rely on feedback, good and bad to make rangehot better. I do stay way away from politics on rangehot. Though I am a Conservative I choose not to get into politics, unless it is directly related to firearm related legislation, to keep from alienating anyone who is interested in coming here and read over the articles.

Please watch the video and hopefully that will give you a bit better idea of where I am coming from. When I say I am not an expert, I am not trying to take away from my knowledge and skill but the word “expert” I don’t use very often and to me a firearms expert is someone who has mastered all aspects of shooting from three gun matches to IDPA/IPSC, to long range shooting. To be a true gun expert you also need to know history as well as ballistics, reloading, casting, laws, and so forth. I know right much in each category but not enough where I consider myself an expert. Education is a never ending journey, and I understand that and try to remain humble.

I would like to thank the contributors to rangehot.com for helping me keep the site up and going.

I spent much of my youth involved with firearms and felt the call early on to the United States Marine Corps, following in my father's and his brother's footsteps. Just after high school I enlisted and felt most at home on the rifle range, where I qualified expert with several firearms and spent some time as a rifle coach to my fellow Marines. After being honorably discharged I continued teaching firearm safety, rifle and pistol marksmanship, and began teaching metallic cartridge reloading. In the late 1990s I became a life member to the National Rifle Association and worked with the Friends of the NRA. Around that time my father and I became involved with IDPA and competed together up until he passed away. I began reviewing firearms for publications in the mid 2000s and have been fortunate to make many friends in the industry. Continuing to improve my firearms skills and knowledge is a never ending journey in which we should all be committed. I am also credited as weapons master on a few independent films.

  1. Came across your video while looking for information regarding the Hi-Point .45 carbine. I appreciate your honesty and the fact that you don’t look down at a weapon that may not be very expensive. I was looking for a .45 carbine to go along with my .45 acp pistol. Your review of the Hi-Point .45 carbine answered many of the questions I had regarding it. Thank you.
