It was almost a year ago I reviewed the OSS Suppressors Elite 7.62 silencer, you can read that review by following this link. OSS updated and improved upon that design with the new HX-QD 762 can with what I believe is a better quick detach mounting system and now the can is welded and is not user serviceable.
You can choose from an OSS flash suppressor or muzzle brake, to mount the silencer to the host weapon. OSS is still incorporating the flow through technology which is different than a traditional baffle stack design. With a flow through design, there are no baffles creating a restriction within the can. The benefit to the flow through design is the silencer runs much cooler and does not feed near as much gas and fouling back into the host weapon. With a traditional baffle stack silencer on, say an AR type rifle firearm you can get up to a thirty percent increase in bolt carrier group rearward speed. This bolt over speed may induce malfunctions while the OSS design you will see about a five percent increase in carrier speed which is negligible. When encountering bolt over speed you may need to experiment with buffer weight and gas port size to make the AR completely reliable, but with such changes, you may make the AR unreliable when you are running it unsuppressed.
The downside is if you are running an AR in 300 Blackout and rely on the additional backpressure generated by a baffle can so it will reliably cycle subsonic rounds, the OSS can may not generate enough back pressure so you will need to work with the buffer weight to alleviate this.
Happy Birthday to Andrew Barnes today, thanks for all of your help, my friend.
After about a 1000 rounds downrange in semi and full auto fire on various Barnes Precision Machine platforms, the OSS HX-QD 762 held up well did not affect reliability or accuracy on the host firearms while the mounts and silencer held up will. We used the following BPM rifles: LR-10, ICSR select fire 7.61×51, 7.5″ 11.5″ and 16″ 300 Blackout 7.5″ SBR in 5.56, 7.5″ select fire in 5.56, and 16″ AR-15 in 5.56.
OSS Flow-Through suppressors redirect expanding gases forward using a 17-4 stainless steel deflectors and internal Grade 5 Titanium coils. The result is a comparatively cooler and extremely durable can with a fully welded outer body is made of 17-4 heat treated stainless steel coated with C-series high temperature black Cerakote®. The HX-QD 762 is full-auto rated up to 7.62, and is cross-platform compatible from 5.56 up to .300 Winchester Magnum.
