Savage Revel review, dandy rimfire
I want to start this review with a dedication to my kitty, Sweet Pea, my little shadow. Rest in peace, angel, until we meet again, know I love you.
Thank you very much for indulging me.
The Savage Revel DLX was introduced at the 2025 SHOT show and was a hit within the gun community, as I saw it.
I was able to secure a test sample and pressed it into service right away. What a handsome rifle that is well-balanced and has proven to be accurate. Outfitted with Turkist walnut furniture and gussied up enough to set itself apart from any competitor.
Simple but effective sights with a rear U-notch adjustable for elevation and a hooded front blade adjustable for windage. If you insist on optics, the receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope mount. The barrel terminates in 1/2″ x 28 threads. The tubular magazine is spaced enough so reloads can be effected without removing any muzzle devices.
With a slightly oversized lever, you had enough room for sausage or gloved fingers. The lever operated efficiently and was broken in right out of the box. The trigger is excellent, breaking just under three pounds with a tad of take-up and just a hint of overtravel for follow-up. The wooden stock is textured exactly where needed. A traditional cross bolt safety is standard and welcomed.
Pushing two pins out, reminiscent of an AR, allows the rifle to be taken down for cleaning or transport.
You can see in the above photo examples of forty and fifty-yard groups. The little rifle shot exceptionally well.
Conclusions
For me, this rifle with its traditional loading tubular twelve-shot magazine brought back memories of my father and me plinking on the weekends. While it could easily be pressed into service as a trainer, it is more of a full-size rifle to be enjoyed by us “adults,” at least in the chronology sense. I can honestly say I have had more fun with this test rifle than I have had in a long time. Throughout the review, we ran several silencers on the rifle.
Throughout the review, we ran approximately 1000 rounds of .22, in which TALO supplied most of the ammunition. The rest was a mixture of subsonic and supersonic of various weights with zero misfeeds or malfunctions. With ease of handling, reliability, accuracy, and just plain damn fun, the Savage Revel is exactly what Savage needed to make waves in the rimfire market. If you are in the market for a fun but simple rifle, the Revel is an excellent option. The Revel is also offered as the Classic, which is a more traditional, understated rifle. It will also be available in .22 WMR and .17 HMR soon.
